Hey, welcome back, Quackpot!
The Ethanol BS is a perfect example of a knee-jerk reaction leading to incredibly harmful unintended consequences.
The farm lobby is as potent as the AARP.

I have maintained all along that ethanol from corn as a substitute for gasoline is stupid. I'll admit some ethanol is OK but only to the extent it doesn't take away significantly from our needed food supplies. The oh so smart gov't mandates are truly thought out by incompetents. Basic science I learned in HS tells me ethanol is not competitive. A quick chem reaction analysis I did shows that comparing ethanol and ethane (a component of natural gas) is as follows: 2 ethane 7 O2 = 2CO2 3H2O; and 2 ethanol 6 O2 2CO2 3H2O. So the 2 nearly identical compounds produce the same "pollution" and ethane uses one more oxygen molecule but produces more energy too. So much for reducing greenhouse gases. I learned this in HS 63 years ago. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. And think about the energy/labor/cost required to produce all that corn. I can only see one good thing and that is the farmers who have struggled for so long are reaping the benefits. Go farmers!!
