I challenge you to try to explain how Mr. Gore has contributed to the rise in food prices that the U.K. is encountering.

Food security is a concept still alien to most of us.

      Dump your lawn, plant food.

Dump chemical fertilizers and stop choking the landfills - compost your waste and use it to feed your soil.

Support your local farmers - fsck big agribusiness!

Eyeball those spaces, such as medians and vacant lots, which should be part of the commons - consider doing a drive-by planting.

We can feed ourselves, and each other. Let me repeat - fsck big agribusiness! Their food is garbage - we can do better.

The U.S. will be fine with some changes to our crop selections, but China's food production has actually decreased during recent years. China has clearly set aside the government's historic goal of feeding its population in favor of rapid industrialization. The problem is that India and China won't be allowed to buy every scrap of food on the world market forever. Five years or so from now, unless something happens to greatly expand world food production, the Chinese will live to regret their economic development policies. China and India, for that matter perhaps countries like Japan and as we have seen recently Haiti, basically any countries that import most of their food supplies, are going to be screwed if food-producing countries see the need for export limits.

The produce in our supermarkets travels on average 1,500 miles to reach us. It is grown on depleted soil using large amounts of petrochemical fertilizers and pesticides. It is cultivated and harvested using large machinery.

No wonder it is getting expensive. We might as well just eliminate the middleman and drink crude oil for our nourishment.

Printer ink is $5,200 per gallon. Evian is only $21 per gallon. Evian is naive spelled backwards.
