Dec. 9, 2006, 1:56 p.m.Yeah, plus one medium soda per day (20 oz) increases your chances of getting pancreatic cancer (almost always deadly) by 90 to 100%. It's absolutley amazing to me how we ban cigarettes, treat them as some sort of unique health parriah when surgary drinks are sooooo much more dangerous to our bodies, and we even let little children drink them. I NEVER drink anything with other than zero calories in it. I only eat ONE small dessert per day and try to each 90% fresh fruits and veggies. I think if they don't ban french fries, sugar sodas, chips and high carb snacks, what the heck is the point of not letting anyone smoke? (I dont smoke, btw). It's sooooo hypocritical. Either we regulate all unhealthy practices, or we don't. Sugar and salt is a major problem in our American diet and it should be banned or we should put high taxes on it. ($1 per medium soda, per fry serving, per chip bag serving, etc.)

Dec. 9, 2006, 5:22 p.m.While I agree that America's addiction to soda and just being fat in general is a big problem to say that "sugary drinks are sooooo much more dangerous" than cigarettes is pushing it quite a bit. A regular smoker has a FAR greater risk of dying that a regular soda drinker.
Also, if we were to ban or tax soda and french fries as you suggest we would be opening a Pandora's box of problems. The difference is that french fries and soda are not inherently unhealthy, cigarettes are. People need sugar, fat, and salt to survive (albeit not in the amounts that the average American consumes). No one needs cigarettes to survive.

Dec. 9, 2006, 3:50 p.m.Have you noticed that the Classic Coca Cola bottle has a pleasantly female shape? I've also wondered if the rounded top to the same bottle was by design. I mean, the Coke bottle didn't just Pop into being one day. All this Rip-Roarin' physical response to the fine ingredients at the same time you're standing there holding a sex toy. Coca Cola is responsible for the out-of-control fornication rate.

Dec. 9, 2006, 8:43 a.m.I would like to correct the article. The Coca-Cola drink never did have any trace of "cocaine" in it's formulary. That is a myth that has been perpetuated for a long time by the media.
I saw a historical documentary on the Coca-Cola brand and the "MYTH" was discussed and debunked.

Dec. 18, 2006, 2:05 p.m.That's a good question. I think the answer is yes--to a lesser degree. You don't have the sugar effect, but there are the other chemicals ("ingredients") to consider. I pretty much only drink Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi, but I'm reconsidering that practice, as well. Maybe I'll go back to drinking non-sweetened iced tea.

Dec. 9, 2006, 10:59 a.m.I quite Coke and all caffeinated drinks years ago because it locked up my prostate. Millions of men would probably benefit from knowing this relationship between drinking caffeine and having prostate problems. Plus Coke literally rots your teeth. Let it sit in a glass for a day or two. It will gross you out, seeing the stains on the side of the glass.

Dec. 9, 2006, 3:57 p.m.Prostate problems can be resolves by inserting your penis into a bottle of coke and shaking the devil out of the bottle. Hang on tight and don't attempt this medical procedure anywhere near the local Police Department or in most public places.

Dec. 9, 2006, 2:28 p.m.I absolutely cannot stand it when you pople do not distinguish between Diet and regular soft drinks. It's a whole different ball game. Most people assume the negative affects of soda are inherintly in the soda itself. To my knowledge, most of the adverse affects are from the sugar, which would also then apply to fruit drinks, even juice.

Dec. 9, 2006, 4:32 p.m.It's definitely NOT just the sugar. The carbonation is bad for your teeth, the syrup is bad for you, the phosphoric acid is bad for you, the caffeine is (supposedly) bad for you... And diet sodas are no exception! The sugar substitutes create whole NEW problems to replace those that were caused by the sugar! This is NOT new information, btw. There's tons of information to be found on this on the net...
Everything in MODERATION is my motto.

Dec. 18, 2006, 2:15 p.m.There is a difference between refined and natural sugars. Our bodies handle natural sugars--such as those found in fruits--more readily than refined sugars. Also, you'd have to eat a lot of fruit to equal the amount of sugar in a soda. Not to mention the benefits of fruits are considered to far outweigh any negative effects from sugars in them.

Dec. 9, 2006, 5:31 p.m.Cool, luv... same here. I will never drink a Poopsie... the after taste is wretched. I am a genuine bonifide Cocaholic Coke Addict. I cut down to 2-3 cans a day, however. My thirst quenching beverage of choice is bottled spring water. My caffeine / energy booster is Coke. I never drink Pepsi, so when I go to the D-Backs games, I carry a few unopened 24oz semi-frozen Arrowhead bottled water... they cost about six bucks each 48 count case at Costco. Being that at the ballpark, much smaller bottles sell for $3.50 each, I'd say that's a good deal. When I go to Cards games, we're allowed one 250ml bottle, but they sell COKE products there, so I get a souvenir cup filled with ice and a litre bottle for five bucks... not a bad price considering.
